Here are a couple of newly released promos this week. First up is from OneInThree..... the video is for a band called Everything Everything and the track is 'My Keys, Your Boyfriend'. I styled this video - a big thank you to Sarah and Victoria for helping me!

Another is from David Wilson. THIS VIDEO IS INSANE! The track is from Skream and it is called 'Listenin' to the records on my wall'. It is mesmerizing, very original and utterly beautiful.

Hastings!

I designed the costumes for a short film last month and we had a location shoot down in Hastings. There was a little bit of time to kill while the camera was setting up so I went exploring.... so much to see! It is a little bizarre around there - I felt a little time warped - there was no one around except the occasional senile fisherman or an American tourist and then of course the constant drone of sea gulls.

I just watched 'Colour Me Kubrick' directed by Brian Cook in 2005 starring John Malkovich. Quite a short film - only about 1 hr 20. The fist 10 minutes drove me a bit mad because of the soundtrack but then I was captivated. Quirky little cute film but most of all a visual splendor. Some great casting with cameos from Richard E Grant and others. The set design was brilliant but of course, best of all were the costumes. Vicki Russell is the lady that takes credit for the originality and array of wardrobe for the protagonist. I only found a few clips but the tea cosy as a hat was my favourite moment! Good film to watch on a Monday night!

Around the corner from my house is the most amazing little shop called UMIT & SON. It is right on my door step and I have been meaning to blog about it ever since I started blogging. This man is clinging on to the old school - thank god someone is! You wont find anything to do with digital film making here - however, you can search for hours through the most amazing collections of films, memorabilia and fantastic filming equipment. Aside from this he also seems to be a cross between a corner shop with his drinks fridge, ice cream freezer, cigarettes and sweet rack! Bizarre - if only all corner shops were like this! All film lovers NEED to check this place out! The man behind the counter is a fascinating man - he claims to be responsible for bringing asian cinema to the UK but I'm not sure how much of that is true. He also claims to be the only shop of his kind in the whole of Europe! Discovering places like this is what makes London so special! I love London.

Florence and the Machine has gone all Hussein Chalayan in her new video. Her new track, 'Cosmic Love' portrays yet another magical and enchanting world in which Florence inhabits. The video shows a series of beautifully light scenes but the bit that I love is the dress filled with lights! It is so beautiful and we just don't see enough use of clothes in this way. Hussein Chalayan is famous for experimenting with manipulating clothes - from turned them into furniture and illuminating fabric.

BLOOD TEARS FAITH DOUBT

This enticing phrase is the title of the new exhibition at The Courtauld. I felt rather privileged to go to the opening on Tuesday - not the usual "booze-up" atmosphere of every other private view - this was a far more sophisticated affair with speeches and generally more respected and interested crowd. The exhibition is put on by the MA Curating course at the Courtauld Institute. It is small with only 3 modestly sized rooms but it is filled with a brilliantly thought out collection of works. The themes in this collection are rooted in religion but shown through the eyes of both historical and contemporary works. Rarely do I see works produced over such a vast period of time shown collectively together so well - I was really impressed.

The variety included work by one of my most admired 16th century artists, Caravaggio but then it is side by side with the likes of Grayson Perry. Studying the 2 together and exploring their ideas and approaches to the same subject is not something one normally has the luxury of doing when they are in the same room!

My favourite piece was a photograph from 1965 by Markéta Luskačová called, 'People sitting outside church during mass'. It shows pilgrims in Slovakia - the exhibition shows a variety of portrayals of Madonna and Child but this image captures the essence of this Christian ideal in a snippet of reality.

I really recommend a visit.

Moments ago i-D launched its sparkling new long awaited website! This is no ordinary magazine website. The content is still a bit low but in no time at all this website is going to be amazing. The best bit is the 'Straight-Ups' section - one day this will be the most fantastic archive of style references - I will soon be addicted no doubt.

Taste of London Festival

Mmmmm..... time to arouse your taste buds! From the 17th - 20th June Regents Park will be hosting the 'Taste of London' food and drink festival. I was there last year - for all you food lovers out there it is a dream come true. There are about 40 of London's restaurants there as well as a huge variety of food and drink stalls from all over the country and if you are a really keen bean there are demonstrations from some of those celeb chefs. If it is a sunny day it is so nice to roam around tasting all sorts of treats!

Not a Coen Fan

Controversial but true. The Coen Brothers irritate me and actually rather bore me. I prefer some of their stuff from back in the days, 'Oh Brother, Where Art Thou' was a good film but since then they have failed to entertain me. It is a shame - they are always faultless in visuals and each moment holds interest yet their lack of story and their repetitive style misses it for me somehow. It is not that I need a busy script and plentiful story line to satisfy me - other directors seem to get away with it. I cannot really put a finger on it. Somehow it is just not my thing.

I started watching their latest, 'A Serious Man', over the weekend. The costumes were.... ASTOUNDING. As was the production design and cinematography. The casting was fantastic and the acting also brilliant with some hilarious moments - but after an hour I was ready to press the 'stop' button. Maybe I can finish it another time, I'm in no hurry though.

Maison Martin Margiela

The clothes we want but cant afford. Maison Martin Margiela is now celebrating 20 years of existence and to present us with their huge array of achievements, Somerset House presents '20', an exhibition to show us 20 years of hugely influential fashion. Bring it on - its about time we were given another indulging Fashion exhibition - there hasn't been a good once since Viktor and Rolf at the Barbican in 2008 and in my eyes that was the best fashion exhibition I have been too - so inspiring - I wanted to hide away in a studio at my sewing machine for weeks afterwards.

The exhibition at Somerset House delves into the realms of this fantastic fashion house and explores its unique and groundbreaking concepts and designs through installations, photography film and of course garments. It opened last week and is running all summer. Next time I have a day off you know where to find me!

I have not quite made up my mind about it yet but thought I would put it out there! Our TV screens are in need of some aliens - it has been a while.

Hmmm..... maybe I will go see this tonight - it has been on my to do list but just havn't got round to it adn now it is nearly finished. The ever brilliant Micahel Clark Company currently have a show on at the Barbican called 'come, been and gone'. The show is predominately to the music of David Bowie but also included others such as Iggy Pop and Brian Eno and his shows are always acclaimed for the fabulous costumes - I need to sell it no more!

Plan B

Not only has Pan B just released an epic trilogy of music videos directed by Daniel Wolfe which must be sen if you havn't already - the last one in the sequence is my favourite - breakdancing in a prison off police shields - wow - I am yet to see a prison scene executed so brilliantly.

I just watched 'Harry Brown', a film released last year directed by Daniel Barber. Another 'must see' and Plan B's performance is admirable although a pretty similar role to his promos but what a guy. I like. A gritty and horrific tale but an exellent example of how brilliant British cinema can be.

If I could be a creature I would want to be Liberty Ross in the new UNKLE video by Warren & Nick for the track, 'Follow me Down'. She personifies a mesmerizing sensuality that just almost makes me envious. The styling and make up and spot on, not to mention they use the best art directors in town, HELEN & MARCUS! Woop!

What a collaboration eh?!! Iñarritu is such a talented chap, 'Amoros Perros' being one of my favourite films. When I heard he was directing the new commercial for Nike I almost peed my pants at the thought - very exciting. I heard it took 6 weeks to film although my memory isn't very trustworthy. Masterpiece.

If you google, "Nike: Write the Future" you will come accross many enterating clips - various different scripts from the same project.

La Fille du régiment

Another 'must see' at Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Only a few dates left for Donizetti's 'La Fille du régiment'. This production had sensational success last time round when it was first staged in 2007 and I cannot bare to miss it again! I saw the model boxes and I seem to remember huge impressive sets as well as designs for some very stylish costumes.

Quilts

I went to see one of the current exhibitions at the V&A, 'QUILTS 1700 - 2010'. It was absolutely wonderful. What I love about a successful exhibition is when I feel the urge to get creative afterwards, inspired by what I have seen. However, I am in the middle of making a patchwork cushion at the moment so going to see this whilst actually being in the middle of a project that directly relates to what I am seeing was better than ever. You start to notice things you wouldn't normally and pay particular attention to the phenomenal skills rather than just aesthetically. Some of the quilts were just mind blowing, the hours of pain staking sewing that took place is almost unbearable to consider - my small little cushion was meant months beyond schedule. Most of the contemporary pieces were rather out of place and were barely worth the effort of glances, besides of course Tracey Emin's piece - ever a fan of hers!

Elephant Parade

Anyone noticed a sudden infusion of decorated elephants around the city? This is the most effective campaign I have ever seen. London is littered with these beautiful objects of desire in order to raise awareness about the endangered Asian elephant. There are over 250 life sized elephants each decorated by a different artist or celebrity. It is also supposedly London's largest outdoor art event to date. Here is one I saw outside the V&A, I am on a mission to discover them all though.

The aim is to raise £2 million. Find out how to donate here. There is also a pop up shop on Carnaby Street where you can buy mini elephants.

Last night was the opening of a tiny exhibition showing a few of Jenny Saville's drawings at the Gagosian Gallery on Davies Street. I have never seen any of her drawings before. Not as interesting as her paintings but just as beautiful and talented.

Chris Ofili

The current Chris Ofili exhibition at Tate Britain is an absolute must! It is one of those exhibitions where you are almost angry because you love the work so much that you wish you had done it yourself. I left feeling totally inspired with a renewed buzz of creativity running through my bones!

The exhibition is built around the permanent 'The Last Supper' installation which I have seen countless times and still find mind blowing. I wouldn't describe his work as particularly ground breaking - it is just beautiful and staring at it allows your mind to wonder which in simple terms - is just a pleasurable experience and arewarding thing for an artist to acheive in his audience. The final room hosts his recent works - I have to say I was bitterly disappointed - I thought some of them were even grotesque. It looks like the work of a different artist all together. I can only imagine he said to himself... 'fuck it... I'm going to piss around now'.

These pictures don't even come close to the real deal - you MUST go see it!

I went to King Charles' gig earlier in the week at Hoxton Square Bar and Grill. You can always be guaranteed quite a performance when seeing this talented chap - not to mention his array of wonderful costumes! The whole crowd were singing along to his beats the general vibes were very merry! He is a super nice guy with a fantastic energy!

Things to see at the Theatre...

There are 2 plays I really want to see at the moment....

'POSH' opens at the Royal Court Theatre on 9th April. It is about a bunch of male students at Oxford University who are members of an elite society known as the Riot Club. It explores themes of class, power, privilege and the influence of ‘old money’.

'JERUSALEM' debuted at the Royal Court last summer and after much success moved to the West End and is currently on at the Apollo Theatre. It is a comic story about our current green and pleasant land. Thrilling performances from Mackenzie Crook and Mark Rylance and what looks like a stunning set design. A man in a caravan in the English countryside threatened by eviction, mixed up with drugs and alcohol and nagging children.

The best exhibition to come from 20 Hoxton Square Projects to date presents a beautiful collection of mixed media works by Vahakn Arslanian. Encased in old discarded window frames are beautiful burnings on paper. The markings have created unusual shapes on the paper that look like animal skulls or even ovaries - the association of dangerous fire with these ideas create an interesting juxtaposition.

Also at 2o Hoxton Square this week is a performance on Thursday Ian Giles presents 'All Together Now'. It sounds really exciting! See you there!

So glad one of my favourite bands are producing new music! The Foals have released a video for their forthcoming single called 'Spanish Sahara' by Dave Ma. The idea is not complicated but the element of a carcass in a bag dragged across the remarkable landscape is extremely powerful for this beautiful song! The waves of broken ice are staggering. These pictures barley capture the beauty.

A Single Man

I couldn't have been more curious to see a film directed by a fashion designer. The result? Truly splendid! Clap clap Tom Ford. I felt as though I was watching the ballet for the reason that every single shot is so utterly perfect - the precision to which every detail is placed is faultless. There's a scene on the university canvas where every student is dressed as though they were a principal character - staggering! I don't think I have ever been so absorbed in a film - people criticize the lack of story line but with so much to look at who needs a story line? Cinematography - also mind blowing and the soundtrack is to die for.

Satyagraha

WOW! The designs of this Opera are truly splendid - maybe one of the best I have seen! I saw Satyagraha at ENO a few years back and I couldn't recommend it more. The show is visually, utterly spectacular, the music isn't really all that but you will be amazed by the puppets, costumes and what can be done with rolls of celotape! Philip Glass' masterpiece is brought to life by the fantastic duo behind Improbable; Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch. The story is of Gandhi's spiritual progress towards non-violent protesting.

It opens on Thursday for a month! Buy your tickets now, I promise it it worth it!

Ever since I saw Kinji Fukasaku's classic, 'Battle Royale' (2000) I have had a lot of love for Japanese cinema. The latest film I indulged in was called Zatiochi (The Blind Swordsman) directed by Takeshi Kitano in 2003. Thoroughly entertaining - the constant blood spurts and Samurai action kept me on the edge of my seat. The best bit however are a few clever almost dance/sound sequences....

Watch these, without ruining the film, they are my favourite moments! Clever simplicity to balance the blood.

The length of an exhibition....

Exhibitions last months yet why do I always miss them. My favourite artist since I was 16 - had an exhibition at the Courtauld which I missed - damn it! The selection of work shown wasn't what I think is his best work but Frank Auerbach has always been a massive influence on me from back in the days.

I also missed Jim Goldberg at the Photographers Gallery! Oh what a fool I am. He is fantastic!

Everyone I speak to sings their praises about the exhibition at the Museum of Everything. Quick - it closes this weekend! Catch it if you can!

Do you think if exhibitions were on for one week only we would see more of what there is on offer? I find myself constantly saying 'I don't have time now, I will catch it next week', and then I miss it. Maybe I would force myself if I knew it was on for a limited amount of time??

Animatronics!

I have a friend who is a master in animatronics! If my memory serves me correctly he had rather a lot to do with the recent 'Where The Wild Things Are' as well as a bunch of Harry Potters. His name is John Nolan, I met him when we made all the bits together for this commercial....

He has recently signed as a director. This is something he made a few years back but has just been shown to the world on youtube... Genius!

Jean-Pierre Jeunet is such a brilliant director - I have seen almost all his films! 2010 brings us his latest; 'Micmacs'. Hip hip hooray - it looks brilliant - I am very excited. Obviously you have to watch it in the original french but I couldn't find the right trailer.

Hopefully it wont be as disapointing as everything else in the cinema this year - 'Avatar' and 'Nine' were both rubbish and I have been told by trust worthy sources that 'Where the Wild Things Are' is just as bad so I am afraid to be disappointed once more.

Zazie dans le métro

This Christmas I almost overdosed on movies - but that is sometimes what Christmas is semi about. After Charles Walter's 'High Society' (1956) 'Zazie dans le métro' (1960) was my most favoured viewing. It seems Louis Malle's early work is very different to what I expected. It took a while to enjoy the sort of Charlie Chaplin humour and the hectic mentalness that became almost like torture at moments but after a while I was glued. The editing was fantasticly clever - the attention to detail was just so captivating. Look out for when the shoe maker suddenly changes race.

Maurizio Anzeri is perhaps more well known for his stunning life size portraits made out of hair. However, I love this fusion of discarded and forgotten photographs with the traditional craft of embroidery. The results of the embellished old portraits are stunning.

Rope

You may be aware of the film 'Rope' by Hitchcock but it was indeed originally a script for the stage by Patrick Hamilton. The stunning Almeida Theatre (one of my favourites) is currently showing the original version. This thrilling and yet comical murder plot is well worth the watch. There is a brilliant variety of extraordinary characters that allow for some excellent acting. The set is pretty sparse but very little is needed and the costumes were OK, nothing special. I was totally gripped for the entire duration and almost jumped out of my seat and fell over the balcony at one point. Eek.

Remembering an English Great

I've always had a bit of a thing for Hogarth, after flicking through a book I just bought myself called, The Victorians, I was reminded of Hogarth's work by some of the illustrations, although he was of course prior to the Victorian Era. I find his satirical observations of London deeply alluring and his detailed depictions extremely talented. His prints are my favourite.

For me Michel Gondry will forever reign over the sort of DIY style creations in film. Using 2D cardboard cutouts is nothing new but Drake Doremus does a pretty good job of it in this music video. It is really cute.

Earlier in the week I strolled down to Westminster Cathedral (admittedly I was standing at the Abbey for a good while until I realized I was surely in the wrong place). I hadn't been to the Cathedral before - it really is a beauty. I had tickets to see ALMA MATER. When I heard the Vatican Choir and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra were playing I just had to go! Opportunities like that do not come around too often. The music was incredible; I just sat back and closed my eyes and let my mind wonder to lots of magical places. I wasn't too mad about the bit with the Pope - kinda naff.

A little before my time was a magazine called Jackie. Norman Lee did some fantastic illustrations for the Romance Comics in the 70's for the magazine. Comics and graphic novels have never really been my thing but I LOVE these drawings!

A Sunday Session

A lazy winter Sunday means movie time! Have I been living in a whole for the last couple of decades? How have I never seen 'Ferris Beuller's Day Off' before? I am so ashamed of myself. Fear not, for yesterday I put wrong to right and was entertained to the max! This 80's classic is one for the home collection - I could watch it over and over. I laughed, or more cackled, the whole way through and couldn't stop saying 'AMAZING' every 5 minutes.

Then I went to RICH MIX for the first time. It seems a great place, a big bar with a wicked band playing and a few small cinemas. The decor is a bit wrong - really clinical with the odd section of ghastly wallpaper. I saw Ang Lee's, 'Taking Woodstock'. I thought it was brilliant, I left feeling really liberated and for the first time in my life I wish I was a hippy getting high and rolling around in the mud. It was done really well, unpredictable and non-cliched story lines accompany the main plot of the monumental festival of 1969.

After watching these 2 movies I wish I had a magic carpet that could take me back in time! One can dream.

I found myself with about 40 minutes to kill in Kensington so I nipped into my favourite museum, the V&A, to see the MAHARAJA exhibition. I am very ignorant when it comes to Indian art, in fact I think I can boldly say I know nothing about it. Upon arrival I was instantly transfixed by all the exuberant paintings. The works are generally all rather small but the intricate detail was simply astonishing. I spent so long staring in wonder because the first room was so fruitful I thought that was the extent of the exhibition. However, when my time was up and I tried to leave I realised there were about 10 more rooms which I had to run through. It was expensive but I am without a doubt heading straight back there - it looked as though the exhibition tells a story of the Maharaja's of India through the ages up to the present day through art work, ornaments, furniture, jewellery, photography and even transport. Brilliant.

It is that time of year again. The Photographic Portrait Prize has just opened at National Portrait Gallery. I was roaming around some of the general collection of portraits contemplating how portraiture was such a tricky subject because there I was, looking at what was seemingly some of the countries highest acclaimed portraiture yet it was all so dull and lifeless. Then I went to look at the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize. I loved it. So many interesting characters showing such strong emotion. My heart leapt for some of the subjects - their expressions were so powerful. Is it just the photographic medium that speaks to us louder? Or is this just an exceptional collection?

Last night was a treat for some new music. First Alan Pownall was hosting a night as part of a celebration for his new 7" release. He is super duper, check him out at The Lexington in Angel on Friday. Then Fred (Ox Eagle Lion Man) joined him for a duet, looks like his new band, 'Club Royale' is one to watch.

Then we went to the ICA to see Blood Orange; some guy called Dev (Lightspeed Champion), he was pretty good too.

Last week I stumbled across a gem in Provence, France. This little shop was my own fairy tale; I walked in to a charming room filled with random antiques and fabrics and other bits and bobs. A peculiar little frenchman nudged me in the direction of another room to which upon entering my jaw dropped! There was an abundance of vintage fabrics; curtains, tablecloths, bedding and more. There were random clothes from all eras and an abundance of boxes of hats, gloves and glasses. After endless rummaging the funny little man showed me another room - I did not think it possible but there was yet another room filled with more but about four times the size of the last.

As you can imagine, I was entertained for hours, bouncing around like a fat kid in a sweet shop. I cannot wait to go back!

Uppity UP!

This is PIXAR at its finest. I went to see 'UP' in 3D at the IMAX and I couldn't recommend it more. This film is incredible in every way. The animation is of course faultlessly beautiful, the script is so smart with brilliant jokes that have become catch phrases around the house, the characters are so endearing and the innocent story is just magical! I think I might even go as far to say that this film is in the same league as the work of Hayao Miyazaki! If I could fly away in a floating house with all the balloons in the world I would be a very happy girl.

Watching the ballet is a very unusual experience; so beautifully unique. You are entertained for 3 hours while your emotions are tormented - the experience is so pure! At times I find myself simply peaceful but to the extreme and at other moments I feel like my heart is about to pop out my chest. This of course applies only if the ballet is good, I went to see 'Mayerling' at Royal Opera House this week and it was fantastic!

Kenneth Macmillan, the resident choreographer at ROH, is renowned for pushing the boundaries of classical ballet and in 'Mayerling' you really have the chance to see why. It is a highly sexual piece complete with murder, drugs and a tormented prince who obsesses over a skull. Sound familiar? I thoroughly enjoyed its beauty and was even brought to tears at one point. I thought the whores costumes were gorgeous - especially their hats!

The best bit about it was that Carlos Acosta was the lead. If I were to write a list of things to do before you die - to see Carlos Acosta, the cuban extraordinaire, dance would be in my top 5! (He obviously aint the blondie in the above pictures)

Felicity Aylieff

Only a few weeks remaining for the Felicity Aylieff exhibition at Contemporary Applied Arts and I am still yet to check it out. I have not heard of this artist before but she looks rather interesting. It seems she fuses the boundaries between ceramics and sculpture to create these beautifully enormous vessels. In the exhibition, 'Working to Scale' the largest vessel is 3m high. Hmmmm..... if only my house was big enough.

L'Heure Espagnole / Gianni Schicchi

For 2 years I have been waiting for this. When I was interning at the Royal Opera House I spent my days staring into John Macfarlane's model boxes for L'Heure Espagnole and Gianni Schicchi. Two short operas combined. They were by far the best models I have still seen to this date (I even made a couple of pieces). His designs are magical! At the time the show was sold out but I wasn't going to miss the opportunity again. It is showing again at Covent Garden; so back I went last week to treat myself.

L'Heure Espagnole. When the curtain went up I had a sort of "Peter Pan" moment, a dark room filled with lit up clocks of all shapes and sizes moving towards the auditorium - it was like a fairytale. The music was not my favourite but the set was fantastic and the costumes, although a little bizarre, made sense once the surreal dancers appeared at the end.

Gianni Schicchi. Equally beautiful designs except the 2 vulgar brightly coloured dresses. Puccini though - what more can I say. My favourite composer - the music was, at the risk of sounding like my mother, heavenly!

The Play Ground

It is about time for a new magazine. Yeah, OK, so the arrival of LOVE is pretty recent but it is definitely time for something with a little more interest and variety than everything else in Magma. Thank goodness The Play Ground has landed.

The Play Ground has recently launched issue 1 to the world. It is bi-annual so shame we have to wait so long for more! Everything about the magazine is super from the layout, binding, size, content - although it sounds a little odd I would even say that it is "comfortable" to read just because of its format. The articles are in French and English if anyone else is trying to teach themselves French........?

When the first page is a Quentin Blake illustration how can you not want to read more? With articles about tree houses, photography from Mongolia, illustrated fashion shoots and even cooking recipes.... what more can one ask for?

The Enchanted Pig

The Enchanted Pig returns. I saw the show a few years ago when it was on at the Young Vic but now it is coming to the Linbury Studio Theatre at the Royal Opera House. The change in venue to this seemingly more prestigious stage is evidence to the shows previous success. It is a co-production between ROH2, The Opera Group and the Young Vic and directed by John Fulljames. If you are in the mood for a fairytale then do not hesitate. It is a classic tale about princesses and their search for the perfect prince. There are some really fabulous design elements - the bit with the mirror and also the red string are the things that have stuck in my mind over the years.

When Anish Kapoor exhibited in the Tate Modern's Turbine hall as part of the Unilever Series in 2003 his Marsyas blew my mind. It was the most exciting and beautiful work of art I had been face to face with. So it was here that my love for Mr Kapoor began. You can imagine my excitement when I heard he was exhibiting at the Royal Academy of Arts. He has taken over the Main Galleries and I have to say, it is one of the best exhibitions I have seen in the past couple of years. Not neccesarily because I love his work more then others but my heart was actually racing at one point - art that has that effect is extremely powerful and therefore marvelous.

I do not want to say too much about it because YOU HAVE to go see it and I do not want to spoil it. The element of surprise is very powerful. There is quite a mixture of work. For example, I did not particularly like the mirrored works - I thought they were more suitable to a seaside games arcade and something I expected more from Jeff Koons rather than Kapoor. I did however like the piece in the courtyard, but probably only because of its position - not only are you standing within beautiful architecture but it is mirrored back to you in a vast amount f perfectly shiny balls. Beautiful.

My two favourite pieces were Svayambh and Shooting into the Corner. I cannot explain how without ruining the experience but they both amazed me. One had my heart racing so much that I almost fainted and the other I just thought was magnificent and as I saw it from each room my amazement grew.

The only other time I have seen an artist work with the environment so well, whether its a gallery space or a street is when Antony Gormley graced the Southbank skyline with figures as part of his Blind Light exhibition at the Hayward Gallery.

Do you ever feel ever so slightly unsatisfied by life? Thats not meant to sound as deep as it appears haha. You can be in love, work is going really well and friendships are better then ever, so life is pretty great, no? Yeah of course but there is always room for more, an extra something to make life that little bit more fulfilling.

I am a strong believer in having a skill outside of your day to day creativity. It can be hard to find the time but I try my best to fit in various little pleasurable projects where I can. I find Domenica More Gordon, mum of 2, rather inspiring. She started making miniature dogs with her friends in her kitchen and sold them locally for £20, now they have really taken off and she is doing really well. It is not necessarily about the money, I just like the idea of having that little extra something.....

So cute!

Over the last week I have found myself being intoroduced to the Channel Dave. This is something I have previously dismissed but now found myself rather enjoying some of those comedy panel shows.

More to the point - I am more into the commercial breaks just so I get to see their current Idents. I now have a new fantasy; to live with all my buddies in a room full of tents; all snug and cosy. But it gets better!! Also in the room, mingled amongst the tents are fountains of baloons and statues of wild and beautiful animals. Mmmmm, I love my home but this is rather special too!

Stephen Fry, will you marry me?

I have nothing intelligent to say on the subject, but I just feel like sharing. I love Stephen Fry, he is my most favourite man. I have admired him since I saw "Wilde" in 1997; a film about my 2nd most favourite man, Oscar Wilde. (They are both gay - this I find upsetting for a few reasons). His documentaries, quiz shows and general character and brain capacity have won my heart. I thought I saw him on Oxford Street today, my heart skipped a beat and my frown was turned upside down, soon after reality kicked in as I realised it was just another average fat posh man.... tear.

I went to check out the opening of Lawrence Owen's new show at 20 Hoxton Square Projects last week. I found it quite refreshing to see some paintings rather than sculptures made out of pieces of a scrap heap or generic photographs trying to be "something different".

The paintings didn't blow my mind but I did however particularly like the softer ones. Staring at them made me feel weirdly calm and for me thats what its all about.... creating some kind off emotion or atmosphere. Right?

This is menswear at its finest. Casely-Hayford is the label recently relaunched by father and son duo. If every man were head to toe in these garms I would be a very happy gal. Almost every item is to die for. I guess the style is a mixture of English tradition and convention with a little youthful anarchy. Its the perfect combination of the classic exquisitely dressed man with a specific attention to detail that transforms the look into something more contemporary. The man I choose to marry WILL wear Casely-Hayford.

Heres a Lady to watch! I have already put my Christmas order in. Boys and girls.... follow suit! Emma Franklin makes intricate jewels inspired by country gentry. The only animal themed jewels I come accoss and the pikey rings in cheap wholesale shops or in dodgy malls. These are not to be compared.... all the gold and pearls and interesting shapes immediately elevate the pieces into another league! My favourite are the jacket pins or even the cufflinks but thats more for the males.

The World of Interiors

Yes! It is without a doubt my favourite magazine. Firstly, the articles take you all over the world to show you the interiors of beautiful houses and other various locations, each issue with an array of allure and exquisiteness different to the last.

Secondly, I love the art direction. Each issues there is a section showing you a specific area of interior design, be it wallpaper, upholstery or trimmings. They display it in such a visually exciting way that I actually want this as my job! Who would have thought to display trimmings on dolls house chairs or to make a 2D city out of wallpaper samples. Mmmmmmm, yum yum!

Also.... one of my favored features..... In this October issue they went to Argentina to find fabrics which they displayed in such a gorgeously simple environment - true to their origin. It does not even look like a set, merely as though you are wondering through some of the locals houses. I cannot help but think to myself; "man, your houses are niiiiice". Haha. Take me to this country!

I am tempted to change my career! Eek.

Painting the Streets

I find it so nauseating when you pass some graffiti on a wall and there are about 5 teenagers taking photos or when you look through a friends holiday snaps but 50% are filled with crap spray painted images on skanky walls.

However, I am bending the rules. I was walking through Soho the other day and the boards on a building sight were covered in some really nice doodles. I couldn't help put snap them.

The Importance of Being Earnest

Tour de Force Theatre hosted their own adaptation at Wiltons Music Hall last Friday and the show has now embarked on its European tour! After a little rowing on the Serpentine on Sunday we strolled through Hyde Park and came across the Asian Proms. We just caught the last 10 minutes of something from India. So beautiful - such energetic and uplifting dancing. It was the perfect end to a great day. Their costumes were just wonderful.... next stop India please!

It is nothing clever but it is indeed beautiful and what is life without beauty?

Smirnoff's latest commercial portrays the kind of party I dream about. I have never really been one for wasting time in dank and depressing pubs - it has never occurred to me to be a particularly inspiring social environment. Would life not be just so much more wonderful if we lived in this innocent fantasy?

I for one, would love nothing more than to dress as though I jumped from the pages of a child's fairytale book and march into the enchanted woods to find a spot decorated with chandeliers and red velvet chairs. Oh the decadence and it is so alive!

This is the kind of job I want, this is the sort of thing I like to design. When designers are asked to buy crap from BHS for their 'real' characters - get someone else to do it, its boring.

Desperate Romantics

Settling in for a night in front of the television..... turn on BBC..... they have done it again. DESPERATE ROMANTICS. There is nothing I love more than one of those BBC period dramas. This one tells the tale of the 'Pre-Raphelite Brotherhood' in the mid 19th century. The group of men begin by challenging the art establishment of their time - I cannot wait to see how the story unfolds (while I try and pretend I haven't read numerous books on the subject already).

The costumes of the Victorian era are my favourite - these men dress so elegantly - a rare thing to come across these days, yet then, peasants looked stunning. The title is perfectly coined - it really is such a romantic view of life; happiness, freedom and creativity hand in hand - its so surreal but isn't it something we all dream about?

Sunglasses

I curse the stylist who put Kanye West in the Venetian blind sunglasses in his music video for 'Stronger'. He didn't look too bad in them but the crowds of teenagers wearing them on Oxford Street are unbearable.

Sunglasses, just like any other accessory, have always had a presence in music videos but since Kanye they seem to have become much more of a feature - they have taken on a new role - much more of a 'wow' factor. Maybe I am wrong but here are some that I have noticed recently.....

Beyonce wears these silver tasseled sunglasses which I love but only to be worn for a performance - anyone who dares to copy is a fool I tell you.

Ciara wears a few in her new video, 'Work'......

And the dreadfully distasteful Lady GaGa looks like Minnie Mouse in these folding shades in 'Paparazzi' but I actually love them.....

They remind me of cute little old people that wear glasses and clip on the shades on top.

Bring on the sunglasses - I want to see what comes next. What will the Saturdays be wearing in their next video?

I was interning at the National Theatre in '07 when they started rehearsing WAR HORSE. As soon as I saw them playing around with the life sized puppets (of horses) I was excited. Time moves so fast and before I know it tickets are sold out each time this award winning piece is on. More tickets have been released and I am determined to make it this time.

Secondly, I have heard big things about The Old Vic's new production of Shakespeare's THE WINTERS TALE. Sam Mendes, director of the fantastic Academy Award-winning 'American Beauty' now comes to the London Stage. I cannot wait to see what he does with theatre.

Also at The Old Vic is Tom Stoppards, 'The Cherry Orchard' - looks like this is also well worth a visit.

Saul Steinberg

Born in 1914 in Romania, Saul Steinberg, after studying philosophy and then architecture became one of Americas most loved artists. He was an illustrator for The New Yorker for an incredible 6 decades! But his works are just as familiar with gallery walls and exhibition spaces. I far prefer hand-drawn art, I don't think it even compares to anything computer generated. I myself have no desire to learn how to draw using any computer programs - I think it looses personality and character. Steinberg cannot be confined to a particular movement or genre. His art is about how artists produce their work. Rather than representing what he saw he depicted places, people and even words or numbers in styles borrowed from other art. He found a means to explore social and political systems, human foibles, geography, language, architecture and art.

The nature of his drawings is not naive, but simple, uncluttered and there is a slight child like quality - ooooh, some of my favourite ingredients for a beautiful drawing. I love that they look so natural and semi un-thought out, they look as though he scribbled them down with total ease in a matter of minutes.
